The Triton Poker Super High Roller Series is already the most attractive tour on the planet for poker fans, but it just got even more engaging.
Starting this week during Triton Poker's visit to Montenegro, armchair fans can start playing Triton Fantasy, an exclusive, free-to-play game tied to the action at Triton Montenegro, where you build a team of tournament players and compete based on actual player tournament performance.
Want to share the thrill of another title for Jason Koon? Think Stephen Chidwick is going to rein in Bryn Kenney in the latest high buy-in event? Or do you have a dark-horse tip for the title who's set for their breakout performance?
Use your knowledge to select a team and be in with a chance of winning some outstanding prizes.
HOW TO PLAY
It couldn't be more simple to join the Triton Fantasy action.
Triton Fantasy is accessed via the Triton Poker Plus app, which should already be the go-to destination for chip-counts, hand updates and the live stream from the Triton Poker Series.
Players simply need to set up an account, choose a team nickname, and then begin selecting a team of six to eight players. The daily game starts when Day 2 begins in the relevant tournament on the Triton Poker Super High Roller Series.
Your team then earns points depending on the finishing positions of these players in the tournament, with a number of further point-scoring opportunities including multipliers and boosters.
And if you fall the wrong side of variance in this one, another tournament will be along very soon (usually the next day) so you can begin the selection process again.
You can select a new team to play every applicable tournament, with selection open until the start of Day 2 in the event. Some prizes will be won by the best performing team in an individual tournament. Others will go to the most successful manager over the entire Triton Montenegro stop. Latest standings will be displayed in the Triton Fantasy leaderboard.
While most managers will probably wish to select their team manually, drawing on their deep expertise, it's also possible to select the "Feeling Lucky" option, which will choose a random selection of players.
Randomly selected teams can enter the tournament until the end of the second level on Day 2.
SELECTING TEAMS AND SCORING POINTS
Triton SHRS players earn points for their Triton Fantasy team if they make the deepest stages of a tournament.
"Base points" are awarded to players finishing in the top 10 in the applicable tournament, as follows:
Winner: 60
Runner-up: 50
3rd: 40
4th: 32
5th: 26
6th: 22
7th: 18
8th: 15
9th: 12
10th: 8
Team managers also name a Captain, who receives a 1.25x multiplier on any Base Points they earn.
Fantasy managers need to finalize their teams before the start of Day 2 in the relevant tournament. That obviously means there will be a wide range of chip stacks already in play, but the game prohibits players from loading their selections with only the big stacks.
Besides, there are further points available to players who surge from smaller stacks. These are known as "position change" points.
Fantasy players can draft according to the following limits:
A maximum of 1 big stack (i.e., a player in positions 1-5 in overnight counts)
A maximum of 1 small stack (i.e. a player ranked 26-31 in overnight counts)
You can draft as many players as you wish from the medium stacks.
Position change points are awarded as follows:
Each position gained outside ITM: 1 point
Each position gained within ITM: 2.5 points
Managers can also select two players on whom to attach a "Booster Multiplier". The boosted players receive 2.5x on Position Change Points.
Smart team selection therefore requires picking players who are already well-positioned to go deep and balancing them with longer shots who can plunder plenty of Position Change points if they go on a run.
GAMEPLAY SUMMARY
Putting all of the above into a five-step plan, here's how you play Daily Fantasy:
Step 1 – Study the Field
Review chip stacks and Base Point multipliers. Average stacks sit at 1x, big stacks carry lower multipliers, and short stacks offer higher upside.
Step 2 – Pick Your Lineup
Build a roster that balances players positioned to run deep with high-multiplier long shots. You have until the start of Day 2 to lock in your team.
Step 3 – Choose Your Power Plays
Select a Captain to earn 1.25x Base Points, and two Boosters to earn 2x Position Change Points.
Step 4 – Earn Points
Base Points come from finishing position, while Position Change Points reward players who climb the leaderboard. Use your Captain and Boosters to amplify both. Detailed scoring formulas are available in the game info.
Step 5 – Follow the Action
Track your team live and see final results at the end of the tournament. New games launch daily and contribute to the Festival Leaderboard.
Remember, Triton Fantasy is free to play. A new game opens daily after the close of play on Day 1.
WHAT CAN I WIN?
Daily Fantasy players won't quite be scrapping over the multi-million dollar prize pools their real-life counterparts will be battling for. But there's still some terrific and stylish swag to be won.
Results from Events #3-#18 count toward the overall leaderboard, with the top 10 players at the end of the Triton Montenegro festival winning the following:
1st - Triton cap, hoodie, sweatpants, T-shirt, Ambassador-signed card deck
2nd - Triton cap, hoodie, sweatpants, Ambassador-signed card deck
3rd - Triton cap, hoodie, Ambassador-signed card deck
4th - Triton T-shirt, Ambassador-signed card deck
5th-10th - Ambassador-signed card deck
There are further prizes on offer in each of the three flagship events on the schedule in Montenegro, the Triton Invitational, the $100K NLH Main Event and the $150K 10th Anniversary Special.
If you finish in the top three in any of those daily games, you can expect the following:
1st - Ambassador-signed Triton hoodie and cap (Invitational and Main Event); Ambassador-signed Triton T-shirt and cap (10th Anniversary Special)
2nd - Ambassador-signed Triton T-shirt
3rd - Ambassador-signed Triton cap
